Eastern Wyoming College has been notified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) that the associate degree in nursing program has received initial accreditation.
"Congratulations on this outstanding achievement! We look forward to continued successes for your nursing program," Marsal Stoll, Chief Executive Officer, ACEN, wrote in a letter received by EWC. "On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, we thank you and your colleagues for your commitment to quality nursing education."
The associate degree in nursing program began on the Douglas Campus of EWC in the fall of 2016. The first nursing class graduated in May 2018. A new slate of students will begin later this month.
The College began the accreditation process in the spring of 2017 which involved an application process, self-evaluation, site visit and successful completion of students. Areas of strengths of the EWC program identified included mention of Memorial Hospital of Converse County was "critical to the initiation of the associate program and provided substantial financial support and resources to the program and has pledged continued support to ensure the program's success."
"Thanks to all at EWC for their important role during the site-visit," shared Suzey Delger, Director of Nursing. "It was critical for ACEN to see us as one college with two campuses being united. We all worked long hours providing the evidence required to become accredited. Our graduates can apply to any college to further their education or work anywhere because they graduated from an accredited nursing program."
"A lot of work is involved in the accreditation process and there were a lot of people behind the scenes as well. We are very proud of EWC and the Douglas campus," stated Dr. Lesley Travers, EWC President.
