More than 4 million acres of cropland in the United States are now devoted to organic farming. Farmers are switching to organic methods for a variety of reasons, which include environmental concerns, consumer demand for products and the value added by an organic certification.
Forrest Farms in Torrington was ahead of the curve. The family farm has been organic for 10 years. It now produces organic hay and corn for organic dairy producers in Wyoming and surrounding states.
Owners Scott and Teresa Forrest were recently awarded the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the University of Wyoming chapter of the national honor society of agriculture.
